Biography

Daina Mateikaite is one of today’s most promising young musicians in Sweden. Born in Klaipeda, Lithuania into a family of musicians, she began to play violin at the age of six. Five years later she was accepted to the prestigious National M.K.Ciurlionis School of Arts where she studied with Gintvile Vitenaite. Another five years later she moved to Stockholm to study in Nordiska Musikgymnasiet and has been living there since then. In spring 2016 Daina received her bachelor degree from Royal College of Music in Sweden where she studied with Bartosz Cajler. She has also studied in Royal College of Music in London with prof. Daniel Rowland. At the moment Daina is studying her master degree in Edsberg Institute of Music with prof. Per Enoksson.

Daina is a Grand Prix winner of the Stockholm International Music Competition and 1st-prize winner of Postjärnepriset Competition. She has also received 2nd-prize of the National Association of Young Musicians RUM Solo Competition as well as she has also been awarded Pan Europa Prize ’’Young Musician of the Year’’.

Daina has appeared in many national and international festivals such as Summit Music Festival in New York, Aurora Chamber Music Festival in Trollhättan, Sweden , Indirizo Musicale in Italy, Frenkelio Vila Festival in Lithuania och Oslo Opera Festival.

As a soloist Daina has perform with Gävle Symphony Orchestra, Royal College of Music Symphony Orchestra, Klaipeda and Siaullai Chamber Orchestras as well as Skallsjö Summer Orchestra in Lithuania, Sweden, Denmark and Germany.

Passionate about bringing classical music to new audiences around Scandinavia and worldwide, in addition to her classical performance career you can find Daina playing pop music with different Swedish pop artists, performing jazz and soul and even writing her own music for violin and strings which is greatly influenced by composers such as Philip Glass or Steve Reich.

Daina plays on a Jeronimus Goltleh violin built in Italy 1717.
